China announced reduction in steel output of 100 to 150 million tonnes of steel over a 5 year period. However, analysts were hoping for the cuts to be in the 200 to 250 million range. Ms Caroline Bain, senior commodities analyst at Capital Economics, said that “The announcement is actually a disappointment … the immediate market impact seems minimal and could actually be negative.”
